Pastors & Staff

Mike King

Senior Pastor

Mike has served as the senior pastor at Suburban since December of 2016. Before that he worked in churches and non-profits in Oklahoma, Maryland, and Santiago, Chile. His primary areas of responsibility include preaching, leadership, and community involvement. Mike and Martha have been married since 1998, and have been actively involved in ministry together since then.
Mike and Martha have four children: a son Simon, identical twin girls Maggie and Lucy, and a younger daughter Tessa. As a family they love exploring and playing games, and they have a lot of fun together.
Mike completed his undergraduate work at Asbury College in Kentucky. He has a Masters in English Literature from The Ohio State University and a Masters of Divinity from Asbury Theological Seminary. In addition to that he has done graduate studies in non-profit management at Oklahoma State University.

Carey Penner

Development Pastor

Carey has been on staff at Suburban since 2001 in a variety of roles (children’s ministry, marriage and family, and leadership development). Her current responsibilities include leading and implementing Suburban’s leadership development program, providing opportunities for people to grow in relational, emotional, and  mental health at critical moments in their lives, as well as some of the spiritual formation options at Suburban.
Carey and her husband Bruce, work in several ministry areas together and are enjoying their season of “empty nesting”.  Just ask her about their little trailer trips!  They have 2 grown and married daughters and 2 grandchildren.

Kim Simmons

Children and Community Engagement Pastor

After being married more than 30 years and raising three kids, I’ve found life as an empty nester to be kind of hard! Thankfully, I get to live life with my crazy best friend and husband, Erik.
My heart’s desire is to help others see the beauty and preciousness of every child, and I am so privileged to be able to work in this church and local community with others who have that same goal.
Showing Jesus’ love through offering radical hospitality to others is my hope for the church. Imagine the impact we can have as we learn to love people like that! Like Jesus taught us to.

Randy Tryon

Worship Pastor

Randy has been on Suburban’s staff since January, 2012. He has a heart for music and seeing the church body engaged in authentic worship of our Lord. His areas of ministry include leading and overseeing our worship teams, multi-media and graphics, promotions, and recruiting and developing volunteers.
Randy & Katey have been married since September, 2000 and they have three wonderful children. Randy and Katey enjoy spending time with family and friends. Randy’s favorite authors include Mike Pilavachi, Andy Stanley, and John Ortberg.
The scripture passage that is inspiring to Randy is Hebrews 12:1-3 “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everthing that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.”

Cassia Hobbs

Connections Pastor

Cassia has been attending Suburban since 2008. As our Connections Pastor, she works to help people get connected into the Suburban Family. Her hope is to make every person feel welcome and walk alongside them as they transition from visitors to calling Suburban home. Cassia leads our small group ministry and many of the events that bring adults together.
She has a degree in Biblical Studies from Life Pacific University in CA. She worked as a youth pastor in CA and volunteered with the youth group here before transitioning to adult ministry. She is passionate about seeing people walk in freedom and live the life God has for them.
Cassia and her husband David have been married since 2007 and have two kids, Ella & Ike. They enjoy the outdoors, playing games, and spending time with family & friends.

Jema Bacho

Student Ministries Pastor

Jema joined Suburban's staff working with middle and high schoolers in 2022. Before that, she served on staff at Calvary Corvallis for three years in their college ministry, Real Life, after graduating from Oregon State University with a degree in Nutrition and Foodservice Systems in 2019. Jema's history with Suburban is long, as she started attending when her family moved to Corvallis in 2000, at two years old. It is her joy and privilege to get to serve in the same ministry that so impacted her own life as a teen.
Jema is passionate about young people encountering and being transformed by the presence of God. She loves to create and enjoy community through fun, conversation, and food (that last one you may have guessed when you read what she studied in college). Jema is also an avid hiker and adventurer; if she's not surrounded with people then you are likely to find her outdoors, soaking in the beauty of our wonderful state.

Dana Weickum

Office Administrator

Dana and her family began attending Suburban in 2008 after they moved here from Missouri. Before coming on staff she was actively volunteering, primarily with children and youth. She is married to Lee and they have 4 grown children. Serving others brings joy to Dana. When she is not doing that, she also enjoys traveling, hiking and being outdoors.

Corrie Love

Noah's Ark Preschool Daycare Director

Corrie has enjoyed working with children since she was in High School.  She graduated from OSU in 1995 with a Bachelor of Science in Human Development and Family Sciences.  She began attending Suburban in 2004 and started working in the Children’s Ministry and Noah’s Ark Preschool & Daycare a couple years later.  In 2018 she became the Director of Noah’s Ark, which is a ministry of Suburban Christian Church.
Corrie and her husband Will enjoy supporting their two kids Brock and Piper in their various sport activities.  You can always find them on the sidelines cheering and supporting their kids and their teammates.

Stacey McFarlane

Financial Secretary

Stacey began attending Suburban in person in January 2022. While she and her husband were born in Corvallis, after graduating from OSU in the early 90's, they moved to Anchorage, Alaska, living there for 8 years. Once the family started to grow, Anchorage felt pretty far away from the grandparents and so they moved to Bend where they lived for nearly 20 years, attending one church during that time and serving in several volunteer capacities. She and Brock have 4 kids who were homeschooled up until high school age and are now mostly grown. With the last child in high school/college, Stacey found she had some extra time. She began to help in the position of Finance Secretary at Suburban in May 2023. She coordinates with Suburban's volunteer treasurers to count the offering each week, keeps the giving records up to date and issues weekly reports to staff and elders to show what funds came in and where designated.

Johanna Morgan

Sunday Preschool Coordinator & Volunteer Coordinator

Johanna accepted Jesus as her Savior as a youth. Some of her earliest memories are of attending and
making pumpkin pies in her mother’s Preschool Sunday School class. She also attended church in
Monmouth before settling in at Suburban with her daughter in 2013.
Her guiding principle has always been that we were created as social creatures, and we all need each
other. Every one of us has something to offer the rest of us. She is passionate about volunteering,
previously very involved in Boy Scouts and currently engaged in book repair for the Corvallis School
District. Her service, in all aspects of her life, has been inspired and guided by Mark 9:35-37 “Sitting
down, Jesus called the Twelve and said, ‘Anyone who wants to be first must be the very last, and the
servant of all.’ He took a little child whom he placed among them. Taking the child in his arms, he said
to them, ‘Whoever welcomes one of these little children in my name welcomes me; and whoever
welcomes me does not welcome me but the one who sent me.’”
In addition to her daughter, Johanna and her husband have a grown son. As a family, their passion is
backpacking and enjoying God’s nature. When not in nature, you can find Johanna reading, cross-
stitching, gardening, or organizing.

Nancy Eaton

Sunday Nursery Coordinator

Nancy came to Suburban in 1987 with her husband Jerry and 3 children.  They settled in quickly and she began to serve in music ministry, and eventually in children’s ministry.  In September 2007 Nancy came on staff as the Nursery Coordinator.  She enjoys not only providing a service that allows parents the opportunity to learn and worship without distraction, but also teaching such young ones.
Nancy also feels very blessed that she has the opportunity to play the piano on a regular basis for worship, and to be used in whatever God calls her to.  Nancy and Jerry have 7 grandchildren whom they love to spend time with.  When she finds time, she likes to knit, cross-stitch, and garden.
Her favorite book is Knowing God by J.I. Packer.  A favorite verse is I Corinthians 6:11: “…but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God.”

Brandon Stoulil

Facilities Manager

Brandon came to Suburban in 2018 and jumped right into volunteering.  In December of 2018, he was hired as the Facilities Manager to oversee the building and grounds maintenance.
Brandon has been married to Heidi since 2006 and they have two young sons.  In his free time when he is not caring for the church facility, Brandon enjoys fishing and generally anything outdoors.

Carey Blake

Custodian

I spent a long and rewarding career as a Certified Veterinary Technician, one of the highlights was being named Veterinary Technician of the Year in Oregon. I loved seeking out continuing education to better serve my patients, especially in the areas of dog behavior, dentistry and pain management.
I started coming to Suburban with my husband Gil around 2008. We both volunteered in facilities. He became the Facilities Manager which led me to work as a custodian around 2015. We lost Gil to cancer in 2017.
We have two beautiful daughters which has led to  6 grandchildren.
I enjoy spending free time with my family, two Labradors Hope & Millie, reading, fishing and playing in the woods.
